However, Orlando had significant success as a blond, with 40 per cent of the thousands who logged on preferring the look

14 MARCH 2003
Who would have ever thought an elf could be sexy? Well, hunky British actor Orlando Bloom proved just that, setting hearts aflutter as the cool blond archer Legolas in The Lord Of The Rings.

Despite the fact he gained heart-throb status with the platinum locks of his elfin warrior part, apparently fans prefer the way the star looks in real life. Thousands of hellomagazine.com readers logged on to vote on the subject in our mini-poll, with a whopping 54 per cent saying his off-screen style is in fact his lushest look.

However, that's not to say Legolas will cease being a pin-up anytime soon – an impressive 40 per cent of voters pine for Orlando's elf blond look. Only about five per cent chose the shaved "do" the actor sported in Black Hawk Down.

Meanwhile, the race is on to find a leading lady for the actor's upcoming epic, Troy. While the cast is nearly complete for the big screen adaptation of Homer's The Iliad – hunky actor Brad Pitt will be playing Achilles and Sean Bean stars as Odysseus – the plum role of Helen of Troy is not yet filled.

Whoever lands the part of the woman stolen away from her husband by Orlando's Prince Paris of Troy, studio bosses believe the saga will be a blockbuster. The film is set for US release on May 21, 2004 – the same day Tom Cruise's surefire hit Mission Impossible 3 is scheduled to hit cinemas.

Who do you think should play Helen of Troy opposite Orlando? Click here to cast your vote in our mini-poll.
