Imagine relaxing after a long day in a beautiful boudoir fit for a queen, surrounded by opulent throws and bathed in the flattering flicker of candlelight.

Well it’s easier than you think to create bespoke bedrooms. In fact, you can do it in just five simple steps:

Step one – Choose your colours carefully

If sophistication is your thing then choose lighter colours to paint your walls. Although you can create a luxury look with bright and bold colours, too much can be overpowering.

An accent wall looks great when papered with a designer style print. You can get bold and interesting designs fairly cheaply. Creating texture with a raised or flock wallpaper will be more expensive but will make more of a statement.

Step two – Make your bed stand out

If you want to give your bedroom a boutique hotel look then focus on the bed. The best boutiques keep furniture to a minimum in their bedrooms but beds are always opulently dressed. Make sure you have good quality bedding and choose silky bedspreads.

Why not add a headboard? You can find antique and interesting headboards on the internet but it’s even better to rummage round a reclamation yard.

Step three – Reclaim your luxury look

Reclamation yards are magical kingdoms of forgotten treasures, filled with broken bits of things that are still beautiful and ancient looking artefacts that could be amazing with a bit of a scrub up.

If you’re interested in interior design then visit a reclamation yard today.

Lovers of the renaissance look can find chandeliers, massive mirrors with elaborate frames, cherubs, and any number of items you didn’t even know you wanted.

The treasures you choose in a reclamation yard could transform your bedroom into a fabulous fairyland.

Step four – Keep it simple

Modern luxury is all about smooth lines and creating a more spacious feel. For a crisp, clean, modern look try fitted wardrobes. You can choose sliding doors so your clean lines won’t be broken up by handles. Finish the look with a piece of statement art on your biggest wall and include a large mirror to create depth.

Your wardrobe doors can be made to match the colour of your walls, or you can choose a highly polished finish in your favourite wood, a style that screams super yacht.

Step five – Keep it light

Any actress will tell you that it’s all about the lighting. The kind of lights you choose can make a big difference to the feel of your room.

Make sure that you have lots of different lights around the room including a bedside lamp. It’s impossible to relax in a room that’s too bright but you still need to be able to put your makeup on. So why not fit a dimmer switch on your main light? Try different coloured lighting – an orange glow works well in character room and blues look great with more modern designs.

Under lit art looks great so light your favourite sculpture or piece of art to add drama to any bedroom.
