Picking your perfect wedding outfit

22 MAY 2012 Summer is nearly here and we’re full on into this years’ wedding season. If you’re lucky enough to be attending one of your friend’s weddings this summer you’ve definitely got some outfit decisions to make.

Of course, it’s the bride’s big day and all eyes will be on her, but that takes nothing away from the fact that you want to -no must-look your best. After all there are the wedding photos to think about and Facebook is sure to be a hive of activity in the days and weeks afterwards. The perfect outfit it is then.

Guests’ wedding outfits require so much thought and preparation, so here are just a few tips on how to make all the right decisions.

Dress up and wear something upbeat...
It’s a really big day, so it’s time for a little glam. Witnessing a friend’s wedding vows is a huge deal. It’s definitely the time to pull out all the stops. It’s a happy occasion too; it’s never the time for grey. We’re thinking something upbeat. Prints, florals and bright, bold block colours are all big trends this year and perfect for a summer wedding.

Think chic and demure...
Don’t go overtly sexy. Now’s not the time for too much skin. The perfect wedding outfit is one that is chic, stylish and demure. If you’re going for the entire day try and find the right balance of bright summer colours, but also keep things a little sophisticated. If you feel you’re showing a bit too much skin cover your shoulders with a matching shrug or bolero – the perfect addition to your outfit.

If you’re arriving after the speeches for the evening do you can really glam up and hit the sophisticated style notes with an LBD or choose from perfect party dresses. We’re loving purple this summer. Add a little sparkle with your accessories and get ready to make your entrance.

Remember the weather...
Yes your dress is important, but don’t go all out and forget the rest of your outfit. Whilst we all wish we could mill around outside at the reception sipping champagne in the sun, topping up our tans, in Britain anything is possible weather wise. Plan for all eventualities and opt for a jacket, bolero or shrug to make sure you don’t shiver outside the church. Pick something that compliments your dress and you’ll be well ahead in the ladies fashion stakes.

Have a few fittings...
It’s important that your outfit works. It may look great in your imagination, but it has to look right on the day. If you’ll be getting ready at the hotel on the morning of the wedding ensure you’ve tried all the elements on together a few days before and at least a couple of times. If you’re not sure get some advice before the day. You don’t want any last minute panicking.

Read the invitation to look for clues...
You may have an outfit in mind straight away. That’s great, but before you go out and make all your dress decisions make sure you read the invitation for clues. Remember a wedding reception in a city restaurant requires a completely different outfit than one in a country manor.

Once you’re outfit is sorted, there’s nothing left but to just enjoy the day.
