Daredevil 'bride' hangs 3,000 feet in air for wedding photo

14 NOVEMBER 2013 Many brides are familiar to pre-wedding jitters, but this daredevil 'bride' can certainly be forgiven for getting cold feet.

The image, which was taken as part of a photoshoot for an extreme wedding travel-adventure company, shows a woman dressed in full bridal attire dangling from a thin rope, 3,000 feet in the air.

The model bride hangs between two peaks at the top of Lost Arrow Spire in California's Yosemite National Park, one of America's toughest rock-climbing peaks.

Talented photographer Ben Horton captured the shot, and it was his late friend Gil Weiss who founded the extreme wedding company.

"I've shot a lot of adventure and climbing photography, and Gil's optimistic personality was infectious, so he managed to convince me to shoot this wedding for him," Ben told The New York Post.

"Even though I've been shooting climbing for a long time, the thrill you get hanging from a rope 3,000 feet in the air never really quite goes away. It wasn't actually that hard to convince me. Climbing with Gil had put me in some of the most amazing places I've been in my life.

"The iconic photographs I got serve as a great reminder that life should be lived, and to pursue my dreams while I still can."

Before the shoot, Gil and his friend Brad went around the Yosemite campsite asking female climbers to try on the wedding gown, and whether they would be willing to pose atop the Lost Arrow Spire.

"We shot over the next two days and managed to get some amazing photos that we were all quite excited about," said Ben.

The model bride in this photo may break the traditional wedding venue mould, but she certainly isn't the exception. Other couples who have been photographed in extreme conditions include one bride and groom in Miami who abseiled down 19 floors in full wedding attire, while another pair exchanged vows at the top of Mount Everest.
