Minimal makeup: the bridal look of the year revealed

Drew Barrymore, who has her own cosmetics line Flower, recently revealed that her top tip for brides on their wedding day was to keep their look natural.

Look like yourself on your wedding day," she said. "The biggest mistake you can make is to overdo it. It should be you but the most enhanced, beautiful, natural version of yourself."

The actress was spot-on and it seems this 'Raw Beauty' trend is defining how brides will approach their look this year. What with the  "no makeup selfie" craze the nation is also seeing — as part of a Cancer Research campaign — her words couldn't ring more true.

Sophie McCorry Day, head of creative at wedding planners Quintessentially Weddings, has shared her predictions in line with the barely-there trend."

With a focus on enhancing and highlighting what nature gave us, this 'Raw Beauty' look has long been loved by brides for its enduring timelessness and fuss-free quality," said Sophie. "After all, most brides-to-be are going to be dressed to the nines in an extraordinary gown which needs a subtle base to allow you to look like yourself, and offset the out-of-the-ordinary drama of a bridal gown perfectly."

They don't want to walk up the aisle looking like a confected version of themselves and often cite an aesthetic that is less about high glamour and more about romance. And of course, the holy grail of 'that glow. Luckily for 2014 brides-to-be, the catwalks and cosmetics giants are in tune with this naked beauty mantra."

"But, as with all such seemingly simple looks, there is more than meets the eye to achieving it in reality," she added. "Look to the women of Paris, who start investing in skincare and focus on nourishing and maintenance from a young age; the result is velvety, supple skin with that fresh luminosity desired by most women, and of course, brides. "It has taken a little while to cross the channel, but Chanel — who are appearing exclusively at the Quintessentially Weddings Atelier this March the 29th and 30th at Somerset House — have noticed a surge in customers and brides to be in particular spending more time and money on their beauty regime and then simply adorning the results with seamless, understated products. "Sophie recommends the CC Cream, which sits in between skincare and a tinted moisturizer, and the Les Beiges and le Blush Crème in soft pinky peach tones to achieve that natural look.
