George Clooney wins Lake Como privacy laws ahead of wedding to Amal Alamuddin

26 JUNE 2014

George Clooney looks set to marry his fiancée Amal Alamuddin in his luxury villa at Lake Como, Italy, according to new reports.

The 53-year-old actor and his British lawyer love had previously considered the venue, but Amal is said to have felt it was too public.

New laws have been put in place however, to prevent fans and paparazzi from getting too close to the property – an indicator that George and Amal could be saying "I do" at his idyllic holiday home Villa Oleandra.

"It is now completely forbidden to stop outside the entrance to Clooney's villa," mayor of Laglio, Roberto Pozzi, told Us Weekly. "It's a question of traffic and security. It is very dangerous and it's also an issue of privacy."

The laws, which were passed on Saturday 21 June, also prevent anyone from stopping on the lakeside of the property. Anyone found sailing or swimming within 100 meters from George's villa could be fined up to £400.

While the Italian mayor added that no one had been penalised in the past for similar actions, he said that the laws were designed "to create a more peaceful environment" and to ensure security for George and his guests.

The restrictions will remain in place until 30 September, which suggests that George and Amal will be tying the knot in the autumn as previously reported.

The Hollywood star and his human rights lawyer fiancée, 36, got engaged at the end of April, after having dating for seven months.

The couple sparked speculation that they were considering marrying in Venice when they were spotted having dinner in the romantic city last month. Highclere Castle, the home of Downton Abbey, was also rumoured to be an option.

Earlier this week, George and Amal were seen spending quality time together at the Lake Como villa. The pair were also joined by George's future mother-in-law Baria who looked "so happy" to be there.
