JOSH CELEBRATES BEING SAFE AND DRY IN CANADA

5 MAY 2006

After facing raging torrents of water and fire on the set of Poseidon, Josh Lucas was probably grateful to be in the relative safety of a Canadian music studio.

The hunky 34-year-old was in the city of Toronto to promote the flick, a remake of 1972 disaster classic The Poseidon Adventure. Snappily dressed in a white jacket and jeans, the actor happily answered questions on the MTV-style channel MuchMusic.

He then stepped outside to pitch some balls for a dunking contest. Josh had apparently been invited to exorcise the memory of the ocean adventure, by hitting a button that would drop a MuchMusic assistant into a tank of water.

After missing the first time around, Josh took matters in hand and kicked the target, ensuring his hapless victim got soaked. The lighthearted fun was a far cry from the gruelling five months the Arkansas-born celebrity endured during filming alongside Kurt Russell and Richard Dreyfuss.

Josh's personal diary reveals the challenges of a shoot, on which the actors spent up to six hours a day in the water. "The whole room can shift and fall, simulating the sinking of the ship," he wrote at the time. "While all this is going on massive rotor fans and air jets are pointing at us, blowing large debris at - I swear this is no exaggeration - a 100mph."
