Placing her cha-cha heels aside for the moment, Strictly contestant Ann Widdecombe put her efforts into a charitable cause this week: helping the donkeys in Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Anne is a champion for the charity Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land and has spent time at an Israeli donkey sanctuary.
She said: “It's terrible that these gentle animals, which play a key part in the Nativity story, should be so badly treated.”
Leading her new furry friends Teasel and Dove through the streets of Newton Abbot in Devon, she hoped to raise awareness and encourage sympathisers to “adopt” a donkey.
Whether the 63-year-old politician can continue her support by attending their charity evening is yet to be seen, however.
“I'm hoping to attend SHADH's 10th Anniversary dinner this year but it's the same night as the Strictly Come Dancing final” she explained.
“I've promised to come along if I can but that will be up to the public in the end.”
