Sir Bobby's widow 'overwhelmed' as she and sons visit shrine

The tragic passing of Sir Bobby Robson has saddened football fans across the globe.

And the impact of the former England manager's death was apparent this weekend as thousands of well-wishers travelled to St James' Park - the home of Bobby's beloved Newcastle United - to pay tribute.

Joining the continuous crowd of sports fans piling in and out of the stadium was Sir Bobby's mourning wife, Lady Elsie.

Visiting the shrine with two of her three sons, Elsie received an emotional applause from the crowd as she stopped to study tributes left to her husband of 59 years.

Sir Bobby's elder son Andrew was on hand to thank the fans for their support, and told them that his father would have been "touched and surprised" by the response to his passing.

"We're overwhelmed at this reaction," he said. "We're really touched as a family."
