Elegant South African Charlene Wittstock, who will marry prince Albert of Monaco next July, has had to sacrifice the other love of her life - swimming.
The former backstroke and breaststroke champion, who participated in the Sydney Olympics in 2000, told a Daily Mail columnist: "I broke my foot, which kept me out of the water for a year. Then I had a long-term shoulder injury.
"I just don't get into the water much any more - although they do have an Olympic pool here in Monaco, and I try to get into it occasionally. But it's difficult."
The former Olympic competitor and her fiancé Albert, 52, have been inseparable since meeting four years ago and recently got engaged.
Despite having given up swimming, the 32-year-old bride-to-be is busying herself with new interests.
She and Albert travelled to her homeland not long ago to visit two leopards that had been transported to an enclosure on the savannah outside Port Elizabeth from her fiancé's private zoo.
"It was amazing to see them in the wild. They are magnificent creatures," she said.
