Redmond O'Neal, who is battling a drug addiction, says he is keeping sober as it's what his late mother would want.
"I'm doing great. I am focused on my recovery and plan not to let anything get in the way," the 25-year-old said at a court hearing on Wednesday.
"I am doing my best to make my mother proud."
Redmond is staying at a residential facility for one year to overcome his addictions.
"(His) status report was good," the youngster's attorney Richard Pintal tells People.
"But the judge is keeping a careful eye on him. Redmond is still facing a tough road and today he got some tough love."
