Producer defends Scarlett Johansson's nixed directoral debut

After news that Scarlett Johannson's first foray into the world of film-making – a segment from upcoming film New York, I Love You – ended up on the cutting room floor, the producer of the movie has spoken out to explain the decision.

Filmmaker Emmanuel Benbihy said the scenes had been cut from the romantic drama because of creative differences.

"Scarlett presented me with an extremely compelling, albeit unconventional, narrative that appeared as though it would not necessarily conform to the overall approach of the entire collective," he said. "However, I was very much moved by her vision and I did not want to pass on the opportunity to help her develop it."

The Vicky Christina Barcelona actress' efforts can still be seen by film fans – it'll be included in the DVD release of the movie.
