Diamond Jubilee: Queen heads for thanksgiving service

Tuesday June 5, 2012

Moved by the support of her people, the Queen has recorded a unique message of thanks.

The address was filmed in the Presence Room of Buckingham Palace ahead of Monday's concert.

It will be broadcast to the nation and the Commonwealth at 6pm after a service of thanksgiving for her 60-year reign in St Paul's Cathedral.

The service is sadly taking place without her beloved husband Prince Philip.

He remains in King Edward VII hospital in the capital where he is being treated for a bladder infection.

Aside from her annual Christmas speech, such broadcasts are rare.

The Queen did address the nation on the Gulf War in February 1991.

And in 1997 she gave a live broadcast to pay tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales.
