She might be newly-engaged but that didn’t stop Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden catching the eye of one of her countrymen as she visited a pair of Swedish teams competing in a yachting race out of Rio de Janeiro at the weekend.
The 31-year-old, who also made the trip to Brazil in 2006 for the last Volvo Ocean round the world yacht race, proved a big hit with the skipper of one of the Swedish crews.
"I have crush on her, but she's getting married," said Magnus Olsson after meeting the royal brunette on Friday. He also expressed his disappointment the princess would be sailing with rival skipper Brazilian Torben Grael the following day.
On Saturday Victoria joined the crew of the Ericsson 4, which is currently the Swedish frontrunner, for one of seven in-port races. And the princess – who is to wed fitness centres owner Daniel Westerling next year – brought good fortune to the vessel, which came fourth, ensuring Sweden's overall lead was maintained.
Back on shore she caught up with the race's other Swedish participants who are due to head off on leg six of ten on April 11. This year's round the world venture kicked off in Alicante on October 11 and will end on June 27 in Stockholm.
