Martha Stewart 'so sad' as sister dies

Wednesday August 6, 2014

Martha Stewart has paid tribute to her "extraordinary" sister after her untimely death.

The beloved younger sister of the American businesswoman, Laura Plimpton, suffered a brain aneurysm following a morning workout at her home in Weston, Connecticut on Tuesday 5 August.

The mother-of-three began to feel unwell after finishing exercising, however the 59-year-old managed to call her husband, Randy, for help. She was then rushed to Norwalk Hospital where she passed away.

Laura was the youngest of the six siblings from the Kostyra family and had worked for Martha’s lifestyle company Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia for more than 25 years.

Laura also looked up to her older sister immensely.

"She's a sister, but she was a mother figure in many ways, a teacher, an employer." The two were extremely close and shared a "very special relationship".

Martha, 73, opened up following Laura’s death: "My youngest sister, and the youngest of the six Kostyra siblings, Laura Kostyra Plimpton, passed away today in Norwalk Hospital.

"Laura worked for me and the company for more than 25 years…She was an extraordinary employee, mother, wife and sister…We are so sad but also happy that Laura had the foresight to donate so many healthy organs to needy people."
