BBC defends Enders controversial cot death story

Friday January 7, 2011

BBC bosses have spoken out in defence of Eastenders' recent controversial cot-death story which features actress Samantha Womack (pictured).

The storyline has reportedly received more than 6,000 complaints from the public. However the BBC controller of drama, John Yorke, defended the story.

He said that as a result of featuring the scenes, calls to the cot death charity they had asked for advice with the plot had increased five fold.

He said: "We continue to review the storyline as it goes and I do understand the concerns, but we've also listened to a large number of people saying thank you and the FSID charity who advised us experienced a 500 percent increase in traffic."
