Dermot O'Leary reveals Simon Cowell's 'fun side'

Monday April 8, 2013

Simon Cowell is "a lot more fun" than people may expect, Dermot O'Leary has revealed.

The X Factor host greeted hundreds of singing hopefuls as they took part in the London auditions at the ExCel Centre, in a bid to win a spot on the tenth series of the ITV singing show.

"He's good. We have a good professional relationship - he's honest, he's tough and he's a lot more fun than you think he's going to be," he said.

Dermot, who has presented the show since 2007, said the popular television programme is both an entertainment show and a "serious singing competition".

"The show is all things to all men. It is a really serious singing competition - Simon and the bosses want to find a star out of this. And I want the best singer, or certainly, someone who's got a lot of talent to win," he continued.

"But what I love about the show ... you never know who you're going to meet. For me the most important thing is to make a good entertainment show and that's my job."

The star, 39, defended acts from previous years who did not go on to have dazzling careers.

"You look at acts that haven't sold as well as they'd hoped they would, but they've all done pretty well."

"For some of them, it doesn't work out for them and the stars don't align, but I think the success rate is really high," he said.
