Peter Capaldi says new Doctor Who will be 'darker'

Doctor Who fans can expect the new Timelord to be "darker", says Peter Capaldi, the man who will portray him in the new series.

Speaking after the unveiling of the first episode, the actor said: "He's going to be darker but also very fun. I'm really excited about people's reactions. For me as a big Doctor Who fan this is a dream come true".

The premiere of the upcoming first episode, Deep Breath, took place at The British Film Institute on London’s South Bank on Thursday evening, after a screening earlier in the day at Cardiff’s St David’s Hall.

Glaswegian actor Peter, 56, briefly starred as Doctor Who in its 50th anniversary special, Day of the Doctor, in November 2013, however this new series will be his first full portrayal of the man at the helm of the Tardis.

He takes over the role to become the 12th Timelord, from Matt Smith who had played the Doctor since 2010.

For fans of the sci-fi series, there is not long to wait until the series airs on TV on 23 August.
