Princess Mary of Denmark has experienced a double helping of joy after giving birth to twins on Saturday.
The 38-year-old was due to give birth next week but her delivery was put forward by a week following two false alarms.
Her husband Prince Frederik (pictured) announced the news of their arrival outside the hospital in Copenhagen. He referred to the healthy twins, a boy and a girl, as "a miracle times two".
The royal couple already have two children, five-year-old Christian and three-year-old Isabella.
