After completing four big screen projects in the past 12 months, Helen Mirren is returning to the stage. The Oscar-winning actress takes on her first major stage role in nearly seven years opposite Mamma Mia! actor Dominic Cooper in Phedre, by French playwright Jean Racine.
In the National Theatre production the 63-year-old has the title role of Phedre, an unhappily-married woman who harbours a secret desire for her stepson, played by Dominic. Her world is thrown into turmoil when she reveals her feelings and sets off a disastrous chain of events.
The production runs from June 11-August 27 at the Lyttelton Theatre in London, before moving on to runs in Greece and Washington DC.
