Baz Luhrmann tweets for a Fran in musical Strictly Ballroom

Director Baz Luhrmann has tweeted that he needs someone to play the major role of Fran in his musical adaptation of the 1992 hit film Strictly Ballroom.

The role, previously played by Tara Morice, is vacant and the Australian filmmaker is on the search for the perfect leading lady.

"I'm from a small country town and we had just 11 houses in that town, so if there's some kid out there in a small country town with 11 houses in it, then please write, go to the website," said Luhrmann.

"There will be no stone left unturned in the search for the best Scott and Fran," added Baz, who is the man behind box office hits such as The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge.

Earlier this month, Baz announced that a musical version of the Strictly Ballroom film will debut at The Lyric Theatre from 25 March 2014.

He revealed that the show will involve the audience. "So exploding out into the space, dancing in the space, dancing being all around you,” he explained.

"One thing I can guarantee you, everything dances in this show,'' he added.
