Danny Baker celebrates beating cancer with cold beer

Tuesday June 14, 2011

Danny Baker said he celebrated with "lots of cold beer" after being told he had beaten cancer.

The presenter, who returned to the airwaves earlier this year, was diagnosed last year.

He told followers on his Twitter account: "The call I have been waiting for just happened. Turns out I won. I'm all clear. I'm well again."

He also tweeted a picture of himself wearing a hat with "lucky" written on it, saying: "I will be wearing this hat for the foreseeable future."

Danny added: "So how do you celebrate probably the best news you'll get in your life? We have lots of cold beer and hot this", linking to a YouTube clip of American actor Samuel L Jackson singing the traditional blues song Stagger Lee.

Danny - who has presented shows on BBC London, 5Live, Radio 1 and Radio 2 - announced his illness in November, shortly before undergoing chemotherapy.

He said at the time: "Once the quacks have soundly thrashed this thing I shall return like a rare gas and as if out of a trap."

Danny, also well-known as a scriptwriter for his friend Chris Evans, came to prominence as a writer for the music paper New Musical Express in the 1970s after cutting his teeth on the punk fanzine Sniffin' Glue.

He later became a roving reporter for London ITV magazine programme The Six O'clock Show and presented shows such as Win, Lose Or Draw and Pets Win Prizes.
