Roman Polanski 'happy to be free' on first outing

Supporting his wife Emmanuelle Seigner as she performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Roman Polanski looked relaxed as he made his first public appearance since being released from house arrest in Switzerland.

The 76-year-old film director film director told Swiss television, "I'm happy to be free and to be able to do the things I was kept from doing."

His actress and singer wife made no mention of her husband during her hour-long gig although on his release the mother-of-two said she was "really excited" to "resume normal family life."

The US has said it will keep pressing for his extradition, in order to sentence him for having sex with an underage girl in 1977.
