There was a joint royal engagement in store for Sophie, Countess of Wessex on Thursday and her husband Prince Edward as the pair helped launch the Devon County Show.
The parents of two were clearly enjoying the first day of the fair, which features local food and drink stalls, farm animals, vintage tractors and steam engines, performing dogs, flying motorbikes and falconry on horseback.
It's a popular event with royal guests. Last year the festival was attended by the Duchess of Cornwall, who was president of the Devon County Agricultural Association at the time. In 2006 the Duke of Gloucester visited and a year earlier newly-weds Charles and Camilla were welcomed by a 500-strong crowd on their first royal visit as a couple.
