A scuffle outside a New York department store involving teen pop sensation Justin Bieber has been described by his representative as "a misunderstanding".
The incident happened on Thursday outside Macy's in Manhattan where Justin, 17, was promoting his new fragrance Someday.
Police set up a small pen outside from which the singer could greet eager fans.
Justin then left the area and went straight to the main barrier holding back an estimated 500 people. The crowd surged forward and the barricade fell down.
Police officers and Justin's personal security team rushed to usher him back inside to safety.
Police said a man standing in the doorway refused to step aside and had to be physically moved.
The man was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and released. It was later discovered that he was a member of the singer's security team.
Justin was not injured in the commotion. Once back inside he continued, seemingly unfazed, to give interviews to the press and posed for photographs with fans.
His publicist commented: "This was a momentary, well-intentioned misunderstanding that was quickly resolved, and the event went very well."
