Richard Wilson has said he's been offered a number of soap roles but he turned them down because he couldn't face the workload.
The former One Foot In The Grave star said that the working conditions are "horrendous".
He told the BBC: "I did a small part in Emmerdale once because I was short of cash but soap stars have a fairly horrendous schedule.
"My friend Ian McKellen has been in Coronation Street. But there's little rehearsal and I wouldn't like that."
Richard, 76, who appeared in Emmerdale in 1986 as Mr Hall, also said that people still want him to be like his grumpy One Foot In The Grave alter-ego Victor Meldrew, the Daily Mirror reported.
He said: "They say things like, 'Oh he does smile', which can be tedious. And then there's the catchphrase - 'I don't believe it'.
