New Doctor Who star Matt Smith is taking on the role of a gay writer for a new BBC drama.
The 27-yaer-old will portray the early life of Christopher Isherwood, who wrote the novel which inspired Colin Firth's A Single Man.
Titled Christopher And His Kind, the drama will tell how Isherwood left his suffocating mother to move to Berlin in the 1930s.
"This is a world away from what Matt's fans will expect. He's really excited and can't wait to get stuck in," a source tells The Sun.
