Buckingham Palace suffers damage in St Jude's storm

Buckingham Palace has been damaged by the hurricane-force gales that have been sweeping across Britain.

A spokesman for the Royal household confirmed that the force of St Jude's Storm, as it has been named, tore several plates from the Palace roof.

Two windows were cracked and the ferocious winds blew down debris from trees in the Palace gardens.

The Queen was not in residence at Buckingham Palace during the storm, but is set to return from Windsor Castle on Monday for a reception that she will host with the Duke of Edinburgh for the Commonwealth Heads of Government.

Earlier in the day all roads to Buckingham Palace were closed due to the violent weather, but have since been re-opened.
