Donna Air is acquitted of permit fraud

Donna Air has been acquitted of fraud by a jury that took just 20 minutes to reach its verdict.

Following her acquittal, her barrister told the court the trial had caused Donna pain and heartache.

The court heard that he former Byker Grove actress had applied for a parking permit in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, despite already having a permit for the City of Westminster.

Donna told the court that she did not realise it was against council regulations to hold parking permits for two London boroughs at the same time.

Her lawyer said that, prior to moving between boroughs, she had suffered an incident which had a dramatic impact in her life.

The actress broke down in tears in the dock as she told the court that she had been hit by a car from behind in February last year, suffering multiple fractures to one of her legs.

She broke her other leg a short time later, which left her needing a wheelchair, the court was told.
