Holby City star Laura Sadler is fighting for her life in hospital after plunging 40 feet from a balcony. The 22-year-old actress, who is known to British TV audiences as nurse Sandy Harper, suffered serious head injuries after the incident at her home in London's Holland Park.

"We don't known if it was an accident or a crime," said a Scotland Yard spokesperson. "Police were called by ambulance staff... to reports that a woman had fallen from a second floor balcony. The victim, who is believed to be in her early 20s, was taken by ambulance to the new Charing Cross Hospital where her condition is understood to be critical."

According to newspaper reports the actor George Cahill, who plays Laura's boyfriend in the series, was arrested and questioned by investigating officers. He was later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Laura's colleagues have meanwhile been voicing their concerns. "I'm sure myself and every member of the cast and crew is praying for her, and my thoughts go out to her and her family," said co-star Art Malik. "My first episode goes out tomorrow and my first line was, 'Morning Sandy'. She was the first person I worked with."
