Anna Friel's dream of starting a family is finally coming true. The former Brookside star, who was told by doctors that she would be unlikely to fall pregnant after the age of 30, is expecting her first child.

The 28-year-old threw her arms into the air and declared "I'm pregnant" outside a London clinic. Anna, who has been dating Harry Potter actor David Thewlis for four years, has made no secret of her desire to become a parent.

But she suffers from endometriosis, which often leads to infertility. The actress discovered her condition two years ago when she was treated in hospital for a ruptured ovarian cyst. "I saw one doctor who said it would be very hard if I left trying for a baby beyond the age of 30," she explained afterwards. "I really want children, but ideally would have liked to have a choice on timing. In this case, my mind is made up for me."

Anna is not the only celeb to have faced the challenge of endometriosis. Pop singer Louise Redknapp recently gave birth to her first child after receiving treatment for the condition.
