"After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," they said in a joint statement. "This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other."

The blonde entertainer rose to fame as a Christian singer, while husband Nick was a member of the boy band 98 Degrees. But it was their reality show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica that propelled them into the big time.

Increasingly, however, the marriage appeared under strain and only a few weeks ago The Dukes Of Hazzard actress felt compelled to deny speculation it was over for good. "Hopefully mine and Nick's story will continue for the rest of our lives like we vowed, in sickness and in health," said Jessica in the Christmas issue of the magazine Teen People.

But setting out for Texas to spend Thanksgiving with her family, Jessica cut a lonely figure, with Nick conspicuous by his absence. Head bowed, her cap pulled down over her eyes, the actress who normally basks in the spotlight, looked like she would have been grateful to go by unnoticed for a change.
