NICHOLAS LYNDHURST RETURNS TO TV IN NEW BBC SITCOM

3 AUGUST 2006

After an absence of seven years Nicholas Lyndhurst, who made a name for himself as 'the plonker from Peckham' in Only Fools And Horses, is set to return to UK TV screens. In his new series the 45-year-old actor plays a divorced father struggling to bring up two children as a single parent after his wife signs up for a relief mission in a disaster zone.

BBC bosses are apparently delighted Nicholas has agreed to appear in the six-part series After You've Gone, which will also star Acorn Antiques comedian Celia Imrie as his meddling mother-in-law.

Although it's over a decade since he portrayed Rodney Trotter, David Jason's much put-upon brother, the actor is still a favourite with audiences. A recent survey in a UK newspaper found that 96 percent of viewers recognised him and nearly two-thirds would tune in to any show featuring him.

Between 1993 and 1996 up to nine million people regularly switched on to watch his time travel dilemmas in Goodnight Sweetheart. During his sabbatical from sitcoms Nicholas also appeared in the 2005 flick Lassie and was the face of stationery chain store WH Smith, starring in the ads as all four members of the same family.

After You've Gone will be shown on BBC1 next year.
