The worlds of hip hop and British football might seem far apart, but rapper Diddy is clearly keen for his circle of friends to include a few sporting icons. Speaking on GMTV, the millionaire mogul described his "long distance relationship" with David Beckham as "unique" and revealed the pair regularly swap text messages.
"I met David Beckham a long time ago when he attended one of my parties," he explained. "We keep in touch often. All throughout the World Cup, we were on our pagers, going backwards and forwards."
The 36-year-old, whose real name is Sean Combs, is also looking to include soccer wunderkind Wayne Rooney in his posse of pals after the footballer bid thousands of pounds at the Beckham's pre-World Cup party to spend a night out in New York with him.
"Wayne is not one of my buddies yet," said Diddy during Monday's interview. "But after he comes to New York and spends some time with me I'm pretty sure we'll probably be cousins."
Footballers aren't the only British stars he's set his sights on, however. He's also hoping to work with pop sensation Robbie Williams. "I reached out to Robbie to record a song with him," he said. "He was touring, but hopefully I'll work with him and other British artists."
