The itsy bitsy mini dresses she usually favours would have been rather out of place in Dubai. So Paris Hilton rather cleverly picked out a fabulous Arabian nights-style outfit that ticked all the boxes in the glamour stakes but still managed to preserve her modesty.

In the Middle East to promote Paris Hilton's My New BFF, her reality TV search for a 'best friend forever' - versions of which have been seen in the US and UK - the heiress proved what a mistress of promotion she's become.

Mindful of sensibilities in the region she told journalists: “I respect the culture in Dubai - it’s much classier than Las Vegas".

“I love the way they dress here. I’m excited to try the new fashions. I look forward to wearing what they wear in Dubai," added the hotel heiress, who also described the local ladies as "so beautiful".

Her first attempt to emulate the women of the desert nation earned the American socialite full marks. Cutting an exotic figure, she had flashes popping in a green and gold embroidered gown created by a local designer.

To top off the look Paris' blonde locks had been styled into intricate coils, which were complemented by gold jewellery pinned into the do so it fell delicately over her face.

During the next few weeks the 28-year-old will put a series of possible girl pals through tests to see who best fits in with her lifestyle. She'll also explore the desert, go camel riding, get a henna tattoo and go skiing on Dubai's famed artificial ski slope inside a shopping mall.
