With so many A-list celebrities treading the red carpet at Cannes, the stars really have to shine to stand out at the famous film festival.

At the weekend, Naomi Watts and Lucy Punch managed to do so with aplomb making headlines with synced-up sartorial selections at the premiere of Woody Allen's You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.

Britain-born Naomi was every bit a screen siren in a beautiful pale pink chiffon Gucci gown embellished with sequins that perfectly complemented her complexion.

Her co-star, British actress Lucy, was on the same page when it came to finding the perfect frock, wearing a knock-out ensemble in a similar hue.

Having set the bar high arriving for the premiere, the two ladies were joined by other famous fashionistas including Elsa Pataky who really wowed in a white fishtail gown, and Lost's Evangeline Lily, who wore a striking peacock-inspired number.

Also competing on the style front was actress Diane Lane, who stepped out to support her husband Josh Brolin, one of the film's leading men.

The spectacular dresses on display went some way to making up for the absence of Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Slumdog Millionaire's Freida Pinto, all of whom star in the film but could not attend its Cannes screening.

Woody's latest London-based movie follows two married couples - Anthony and actress Gemma Jones, who star as Alfie and Helena, and Naomi and Josh who play their daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Roy.

The film sees Alfie leaves his wife to pursue a free-spirited call girl played by Lucy, while Sally develops a crush on her art gallery boss Greg, played by Antonio Banderas.

In the mean time her husband Roy becomes infatuated with a mystery woman he spies through a window.
