19 JULY 2010

The disappointment of the World Cup final turned to joy for Dutch player Wesley Sneijder when he wed beautiful TV presenter Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen

There was no mistaking the couple's happiness as they released doves into the air, gazing lovingly at each other, after the service in Tuscany, Italy.

Midfielder Wesley - who was seen by millions wiping away a tear at Soccer City in South Africa following his side's loss to Spain – couldn't have looked prouder of his bride.

Yolanthe, considered one of the most glamorous screen faces in the Netherlands, was breathtakingly radiant as she drew up in a horse-drawn carriage.

For her big day she had picked out an extravagant, tiered satin affair that wouldn't have been out of place in a fairytale.

Adding the finishing touch was a lace-edged veil and train, atop her long brunette locks. In her hand she carried a tasteful posy of ivory-coloured roses.

The ceremony in the Church of San Giusto e Clemente in Castelnuovo Berardenga, about nine miles from Siena sets the seal on a whirlwind courtship which began just over a year ago.

Among the friends and family showering the newlyweds in confetti was Jessey, the groom's three-year-old son by his ex-wife, Ramona, from whom he separated in January 2009.

Between 2007 and 2009 Yolanthe dated Dutch pop star Jan Smit.
