Robert Downey Jr and Susan's date night after son's birth

Robert Downey Jr and wife Susan looked full of the joys of parenthood as they stepped out on their first public date night since the birth of their son.

The pair were brimming with happiness as they stopped to pose for photos on the red carpet at the world premiere of Marvel's action movie, The Avengers.

Robert and film producer Susan welcomed their first child together, Exton Elias Downey, on February 7.

The 46-year-old actor already has a 18-year-old son from his previous marriage to Deborah Falconer.

Joining the new parents was Scarlett Johansson, who looked stunning in a black, peplum-style Versace dress accessorised with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. 

Chris Hemsworth, who also appears in the movie, made a solo appearance at the red carpet.

His Spanish actress wife, Elsa Pataky, is in the final trimester of her pregnancy, and is due to give birth any day.
