Natalie, 30, and her gorgeous other half James Shepherd, 40, told HELLO!: "We have a beautiful baby boy born this morning and we are all doing really well," adding that he weighed 6lb 5oz.

The new addition is a dream come true for the couple who married on June 6, 2008 at Rudding Park's 19th-century chapel in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

When they announced the pregnancy, the actress said: "We're so happy,"  and admitted that she had cried during her first scan and "James had a tear in his eye".

The new parents, who have named their son Freddie George James Shepherd, hinted back in March about their ideas.

"I was named after Natalie Wood and my mum was named after Deborah Kerr, so I keep thinking of old movie star names."

Speaking about their plans for raising their child, the duo said: "The most important thing for both of us as parents will be making sure our child feels loved."

But added that "We think it is important to be strict  not in a horrible way, but strict with ourselves, too, in that we don't spoil our child."

While the smitten new mum plans to return to Emmerdale as feisty barmaid Alicia Gallagher in a couple of months, James will continue to works from home as a financial services consultant.

This arrangement was initially so he could spend more time with his wife, however Natalie said: "We also thought that, when we had a family, it'd be great to always have a parent at home."
