However, she refused to go into details about the child's gender. She quipped : "It is a human being, which is a profound relief."

The star is currently on our screens as bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathieson in the hugely popular US series Homeland, but she denies that her character will be joining her on the pregnancy wagon.

The producers of the show will be waving their magic CGI to keep the "soccer ball" baby bump hidden.

Clare said: "I've been pretty fortunate thus far-- we're in the middle of filming our second season and luckily we've been able to conceal it."

The 33 year-old added: "It's now getting to the point where I'm looking a little knocked up. They haven't written it in, but they'll be able to manipulate it in post and do some CGI trickery and make Carrie not so pregnant."

This will be Claire's first child with actor/model husband Hugh Dancy, whom she has been married to for three years.

Also a joker, Hugh also admits that his addiction to Homeland has caused some arguments in their household.

He said: "Claire was still filming in North Carolina when I watched the series on telly and I had to say to her, 'obviously I care about what you do, but you're going to have to stop telling me, because I would rather watch it once a week than talk to you'."

He added: "Now she's doing the second season, I recognise that I probably need to focus on our marriage more than my own TV viewing."
