16 OCTOBER 2012 She recently said she likes being older – one look at Gwyneth Paltrow and it's easy to see why.

The Iron Man star put on a slinky Micheal Kors dress – complete with cut out sections that showed off her toned sides – for the designer's Big Apple Golden Heart gala.

She caught up with her style maestro pal on the red carpet, stopping for a chat with him and Glee creator Ryan Murphy.

Style pundits were full of praise for Gwyneth's look, with the man behind the dress leading the compliments.

He tweeted: "Chic, glamorous and the ultimate philanthropist, @GwynethPaltrow looks fabulous in my black cut-out dress #GoldenHeart."

Completing the slick look, the actress pulled her hair back into a chic ponytail and accesorised with white shoes with gold edging.

Gwyneth spoke at the gala, where her pal Ryan was honoured with the Outstanding Service to the Community award.

Meanwhile Michael was given the Lifetime Achievement award for his philanthropic work.

Before her September 27 birthday, Gwyneth revealed her thoughts on turning 40.

"I like being older. It's nice to really know yourself and feel relaxed," said the glam blonde.

"I actually think I look better now than I did when I was 24, so I'm very comfortable with myself."

She also revealed that she and husband Chris Martin are not really planning to have any more children.

"I don’t think so" she said when asked by the interviewer. "I would love to, but I sort of feel like I don’t know if I can go back to diapers and things like that. I'm so past that, I think I may have missed the window."
