Shakira and Gerard Pique's baby boy, who was born by caesarean on Tuesday night, made his social networking debut  when his father posted a photo on Twitter. The footballer couldn't resist boasting about his newborn to his fans on the social network site. He may be just 24 hours old, but thanks to his football dad baby Milan is already alive and kicking in some stylish footwear. A picture revealed the legs and feet of the newborn, who was pictured wearing stylish white sneakers emblazoned with his moniker.

Soon after the birth, the couple released a statement in which they revealed the meaning behind their son's namesake. "The name Milan means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification," it read. "Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth," quipped the stars. Keen to keep their fans in the loop during their special moment, Shakira, affectionately known as Shak, asked fans to pray for her before she entered the delivery room.

"I'd like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life," wrote the Hips Don't Lie artist. Baby Milan may already be used to the fame, however, as he felt the glare of the camera when he was merely a bump. Caring couple Shakira and Gerard posed for an intimate pregnancy portrait to raise funds for children's charity UNICEF. The shots, taken by Jaume Laiguana, feature bikini-clad Shakira's bump alongside her shirtless beau. As well as sharing the special chapter in their lives, the pair had a more unique request for their fans.

Shakira and Gerard's world baby shower asked fans to opt for a more unique present on behalf of their baby-to-be, and featured a list on the UNICEF website of items they could purchase for suffering babies in the developing world. The 'Inspired Gift' prices begin at $5, and range from mosquito nets to polio vaccines to gift a disadvantaged child. Gift buyers will receive a personal thank you message from the couple, and will be able to view more snaps from the couple's photo shoot.

Milan is the first child for the pair.
