Sylvie van der Vaart enjoys birthday celebrations days after footballer husband confirms relationship with her best friend

16 APRIL 2013

It's been a tough week for Sylvie van der Vaart but looked to be in good spirits as she stepped out over the weekend to celebrate her 35th birthday.

Sylvie's estranged footballer husband Rafael van der Vaart confirmed his relationship with her best friend Sabia Boulahrouz last week. Sabia is the wife of Rafael's Hamburg teammate Khalid Boulahrouz.

The former Victoria's Secret model exuded a positive vibe as she was photographed with her son Damian in Hamburg on Sunday.

The Dutch TV presenter showed off her slim pins in an eye-catching metallic dress which she wore with gold heels. Her blonde locks were sculpted into a chic bun for the celebrations.

Her six-year-old son accompanied her and showed off his sartorial streak wearing chinos, a navy blue blazer and a stylish trilby hat.

There was no sign of her rumoured new love interest, French millionaire Guillaume Zarka. As reports of her estranged husband's new romance broke in German newspaper Bild, Sylvie was apparently in Paris spending time with Guillaume.

Sylvie announced her split from Rafael on New Year's Day, and seems to have no ill feeling towards Rafael and his new girlfriend. "It's his decision," she said. "I wish them the best, right now I am focused on my son Damian. He is the most important thing for me."

Rafael and Sabia have made no secret of their romance. "We have known each other for some years," explained the Dutch footballer. "We have always been good friends. Surprisingly in the last weeks some feelings have grown between the two of us."
"We have been together for a brief time and we are being very careful," added Sabia. "We started our relationship long after their separation. I don't think Sylvie is mad."

After the couple admitted to the breakdown of their relationship, it surfaced that Rafael had assaulted his wife at a party.

"It was very foolish of me," admitted the midfielder. "I'm an idiot. I'm very sorry. It should never have happened."

Sylvie has not been active on her Twitter account since the day before the split was announced when she uploaded a photo of herself with Rafael and Sabia.

The image of the trio is accompanied with the caption "#NYE ... Hope you all have a great party."
