Kate Moss celebrates 40th in style opting for swanky Mayfair birthday bash

17 JANUARY 2014 While rumour had it that Kate Moss had jetted off to Necker Island to ring in her 40th birthday, the supermodel was actually on home turf for the grand celebrations.

The queen of the catwalk headed to 34 Restaurant in the swanky Mayfair area for a stylish lunch with husband Jamie Hince and lots of her very stylish friends.

Among the numerous close friends in attendance were Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney, Sadie Frost, Jo Wood, Nick Grimshaw and Mario Testino, along with Kate's mum Linda and Topshop owner Sir Philip Green.

Lots of the famous guests were bearing birthday presents to boot. Radio One DJ Nick was seen carrying two brown paper-wrapped gifts – one or both of which may have been paintings. Jo Wood had two parcels in her arms and Stella McCartney was seen carrying a paper bag.

And of course, what every girl ever wanted – her very own Porsche. Kate received her special gift of a car at the Dorchester Hotel in London before heading off to lunch – courtesy of Sir Philip Green.

For her big bash the birthday girl wasn’t without her signature leopard print, wearing the patterned coat over a little black dress with floral pattern and black lace-up high heels.

The world famous model, who was spotted 26 years ago at JFK airport when she was just 14, completed her outfit for the special day with natural make-up, shaggy blonde locks and a powder pink Chanel handbag.

Knowing that the world – and the capital's photographers – would be wanting a glimpse of her on her landmark birthday – Kate also sported a glowing tan thanks to St.Tropez skin finishing expert Nichola Joss, who went to her house especially to apply the bronzed complexion the day before.

Kate chose to stay close to home for her birthday despite Sir Richard Branson's generous offer of lending her his privately-owned Necker Island for free.
