Andy Murray denies he's getting married this summer after Twitter joke goes wrong

30 JANUARY 2014 He likes to keep his romance with Kim Sears out of the spotlight, but Andy Murray was this week forced to publicly deny the couple are getting married this summer.

The Scottish tennis champ felt the need to set the record straight after a jokey comment he made during a live Twitter Q and A session was taken seriously.

A fan asked if he planned to make Kim his wife, to which the sportsman responded: "We're getting married just after Wimbledon, should be a great day."

He later tweeted: "I'm not getting married(yet) and I don't want to kill rafael Nadal.."

His spokesperson also confirmed: "Andy Murray is not getting married this summer.

The 26-year-old is often asked about wedding plans, but is reluctant to answer questions on the subject. In December, in another Q and A, former professional Darren Cahill couldn't resist poking fun at the star.

"When are you going to man up and pop the question to that beautiful girlfriend of yours," adding the hashtag: "#Beforeshecomestohersenses".

Andy responded: "Don't start!" before continuing with the chat.

The Wimbledon champ has admitted that he would like to have children with Kim.

"I can see myself having a family one day," he said during an interview with the Scottish Daily Mail. "It is something that I'm starting to think about because Kim and I have been together for eight years."

The couple met at the US Open in 2005 when Kim was travelling with her tennis coach father Nigel. The blue-eyed beauty was only 17 at the time and Andy was her first serious boyfriend.

Andy wrote about the strength of his feelings for his girlfriend in a new book about his life and career.

"You're in these huge cities meeting new people all the time and it would be easy to get your head turned," he wrote.

"But Kim's always been there for me. She really cares about me and helps with so many things. She always has. That's why we have such a great relationship."
