Photo evidence has emerged to prove reports of a split between Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are definitely wide of the mark. The pair seemed very much still together as they stepped out this week on a lunch date in New York. Jennifer's sparkling engagement ring could clearly be seen on her finger.

Justin and Jennifer were snapped leaving Manhattan eaterie Fred's – which is situated on the ninth floor of Barney's department store.Joining the couple was reportedly Jason Bateman, Jen's co-star from The Switch and Horrible Bosses. The outing is the first time the couple have been photographed together since their Mexican New Year's holiday. Away from the flashbulbs they did attend two pre-Oscars parties, however, for the Motion Picture & Television Fund and CAA.

Commentators began to speculate Jennifer and Justin's relationship was in trouble when Justin went solo to the funeral of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Then the Mulholland Drive actor was absent from his fiancée's birthday celebrations.

Instead, Jennifer celebrated with an intimate dinner in Los Angeles with best friend Courteney Cox and other pals. Justin, meanwhile, was on the opposite side of the country in New York, filming for his new HBO show The Leftovers.

Just last month reports emerged that they had put their wedding plans on hold. "There is absolutely no wedding talk or planning going on," a source close to the couple told RadarOnline. "Publicly the couple is saying it's because they are just too busy with work, but if they wanted to get married, it would happen." "The relationship is definitely at an impasse," added the source. "Either it's going to fizzle out, which seems likely, or they get married."
