Ian Wright flies home from Brazil's World Cup after wife and children are robbed at knife-point

19 JUNE 2014

Ian Wright has arrived back in the UK to be with his wife and children after a terrifying robbery at the family's west London home.

The former England footballer jumped on a plane from Brazil after four armed men broke into his £2 million house and threatened his wife Nancy, 39, and two young daughters during a raid, before making off with personal possessions. According to the Sun, the gang held a knife to Nancy's throat while Ian was in the country celebrating the World Cup 2014.

Ian Wright has flown home to be with his family after the terrifying ordeal

Ian, 50, who had been working as a commentator for ITV in Brazil for the football tournament, last night took to Twitter, angrily tweeting, "You won't get away with it!"

His manager told the newspaper, "It was a terrifying ordeal. They marched Ian's wife from room to room. I would like to thank ITV for helping Ian to get home as quickly as possible."

A Scotland Yard spokesman said, "We are investigating an aggravated burglary at an address in north-west London after we were called at 9.20 last night.

"Personal possessions were stolen. The suspects are described as four black men aged between 18 and 25 with London accents, wearing dark clothing and hoodies obscuring their faces."

The family's shocked next-door neighbour, Marianne Collinge, 70, said, "I suppose they could be a bit of a target because they do have beautiful cars.

"But they are very unpretentious people. They are one of us and I'm terribly sorry for them, it's awful."
