Kristen Stewart explains why she never smiles: 'That's what they'd be desecrating me for'

07 AUGUST 2014

Kristen Stewart achieved major success with her work in the Twilight Saga films but the actress admits she never actually tried hard to please the public on her way to the top.

The 24-year-old is known for her coy persona when off-set and confessed she doesn’t play up to the cameras when she’s not at work because she wants to be in control. Kristen has stayed true to plan and has explained why it works for her.

Kristen Stewart has spoken about why she doesn't smile

“Now I feel like if I smiled for a paparazzi photo—not that I ever would—that’s exactly what people would be desecrating me for,” she told the September 2014 of America’s ELLE magazine. “They’d be like, ‘now you’re going to give it up, now you’re a sellout.’ like, okay. What do you want? What would you like?”

Kristen – who used to date her movie co-star Robert Pattinson – added that although she continues to impress audiences, none of her career moves have been planned as such.

“Never at any point have I sat down and plotted how I should proceed from here on,” she went on. “As soon as you start thinking about your career as a trajectory—like, as if you’re going to miss out on some wave or momentum—then you’re never doing anything for yourself anyway.

“Then you’re truly, actually, specifically working for the public. You’re turning yourself into a bag of chips.”

Even when her popular vampire motion pictures were released she was unprepared for what was about to happen. She had appeared in films before but lived a relatively normal life prior to the book-to-screen series.

“The day the movie came out there was a picture of me—in the New York Post, I think,” she said. “I was sitting on my front porch, smoking a pipe with my ex-boyfriend and dog.”
