Olivia Newton-John poses for selfie with her new Grease waxwork model

11 AUGUST 2014

Olivia Newton-John came face to face with a waxwork figure of herself as it was unveiled in Las Vegas over the weekend.

The new wax model depicted Olivia, 65, as her most famous on-screen character – Sandy from the 1978 hit classic Grease.

The actress made the appearance at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino where she is currently completing a 45-show residency called Summer Nights, which features popular tunes from the musical romantic comedy.

"It's very strange, it's very bizarre," Olivia told Fox News of her waxwork model. "It's like before and after."

"This character will always live on," she added. "It's given people so much pleasure over the years. That's a really good feeling."

Olivia stayed true to her loveable self as she charmed crowds with her winning smile and struck a series of poses next to her wax figure. The age-defying star even whipped out her phone to take a selfie of the pair.

"Such an honor to have my own Madame Tussaud "Sandy" figure!" wrote Olivia on her Twitter and Facebook pages.

After the unveiling, the waxwork – which cost £178,000 to make – moved to the museum's Las Vegas branch before it will take up its permanent position at the Madame Tussauds Hollywood.

Olivia's show in Sin City, which features songs from her early years including Let Me Be There and Have You Never Been Mellow as well as some of her favourites from Grease, has proved a hit with fans of all ages.

Given her musical background, it comes as no surprise that Olivia passed on her talent to her singer daughter Chloe Lattanzi.
