Singer Alvin Stardust dies aged 72

Singer and actor Alvin Stardust has died aged 72. The My Coo Ca Choo singer's manager confirmed the sad news and said he had died following a short illness. He had recently been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer and passed away at home with his wife and family around him.

Alvin, who was born Bernard William Jewry, was just about to release his first studio album in 30 years. Revealing the news on his official website he said: "I am extremely delighted to announce that my new album is now finished and will be released at the beginning of November by Conehead Records.

"Alvin is a new and exciting departure for me and I'm immensely proud of the finished product and the amazing work of Richard Scott and Scott Ralph of Daftdog Productions in recording and producing it. "Alvin is survived by his third wife, actress and choreographer, Julie Paton. He had four children from his three marriages. Shaun, Adam and Sophie are his grown-up children while teenager Millie Margaret May was born in December 2000.
